Insulin triggers glucose uptake into cells. The two main fates of glucose is breakdown via glycolysis (for use in the Krebs Cycle to make energy OR for de novo lipogenesis) OR storage as glycogen.
Ketones from H.V.M.N. Ketone Ester are converted to acetyl CoA (ACoA) inside the mitochondria.
High levels of ACoA in the mitochondria strongly inhibits glucose breakdown by glycolysis. Excess carbs will not be converted into fat because in order to make fat from carbs, carbs must be converted into ACoA via glycolysis, and this in inhibited by ketones. This means that glucose taken up is most likely stored as glycogen.
Drinking H.V.M.N. Ketone Ester lowers blood glucose levels in healthy people (Source 1). It is believed this is a combined effect of lower liver glucose release (Source 2) and increased tissue glucose uptake (Source 3). Taking H.V.M.N. Ketone Ester before a glucose drink lowers the resulting glucose response (Source 4).
