Can children drink H.V.M.N. Ketone Ester?

Updated 1 year ago by Taylor

As with any nutrition strategy, we encourage you to ask a health professional prior to implementing any change in your or your family’s diets.

We are born with the ability to produce and metabolize ketones, and ketone production and metabolism is natural for all ages. Even healthy newborns, consuming the fat-rich energy source of breastmilk, have blood BHB levels in the 0.5-2mM range. We see no reason why children should not be able to consume BHB-containing beverages of appropriate dosing safely under the careful supervision of their parents, health professionals, nutritionists, and coaches (where applicable). With children 12 and under, a health professional should always be consulted.

The standard dose of 25 grams ketone ester (1 bottle of H.V.M.N. Ketone Ester)—based on the researched dosing of 0.16 grams per pound of body weight—is the dose for an average healthy adult, with average nutritional needs. Just as we recommend that adults with above-average body mass (as with bodybuilders, etc.) or above-average activity levels (as with marathoners on race day, etc.) adjust their dosing upwards accordingly, we also recommend that parents adjust any dose given to their children downwards accordingly.

For example, if exogenous ketone supplementation is a strategy desired and approved by the child’s parents, health professionals, nutritionists, and coaches (where applicable), we’d recommend beginning with the following approximate dose adjustments:

Grams Ketone Ester
H.V.M.N. Ketone Ester

1/3 bottle (~20 mL)

1/2 bottle (~30 mL)

2/3 (~40 mL)
